“This version of boot camp is not intended for this computer model” FIXED!

If you have encountered the error “This version of boot camp is not intended for this computer model” on a slightly older Intel Mac that does in fact run Windows 10, try the following:

  1. Launch CMD.exe as an administrator. You can do this by right-clicking on it and selecting RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR or left-clicking on it while holding CTRL+SHIFT to do the same.
  2. Change to your boot camp installation directory- in my case C:\users\administrator\desktop\bootcamp6\drivers\apple
  3. Execute the following command: msiexec /i bootcamp.msi

Enjoy!

  1. Dude! You saved me! Thanks for taking the time to post this. I’ve been struggling with this error wint windows 10 on a Mid 2010 MBP for a week. This simple work around did the trick. Thanks again!

    1. There are a lot of problems with boot camp. the best thing I can suggest is to do a clean install and follow all the directions it provides. I’ve done this recently and it works about half the time.

  2. I tried many other options including using instedit to alter the launch configuration of the bootcamp msi, nothing worked except this! Thanks so much, finding this post saved me right before I gave up!

      1. Not entirely sure what you mean by change the install directory. When you install you change your partition on your mac volume. Once that’s done there is no moving it.

      2. What he means is that after you run CMD.exe as administrator you want to renavigate by writing

        “pushd C:\users\administrator\desktop\bootcamp6\drivers\apple”
